Senator Abaribe also spoke saying IPOB has assured that they will continue to remain nonviolent. He said discussions about a better union for Nigeria were necessary so that some people will not continue to feel like second class citizens.

Convicted Air Craft Man (ACM) Bernard Kalu had told the General Court Marshal set up to try his case that he suspected that his estranged girlfriend, Air Craft Woman (ACW) Oladipupo Sholape aka Shomzy Shomzy, was having a love relationship with another man.

Kalu had in March this year shot and killed his estranged lover at her residence at the Nigerian Air Force Base in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Reading out the findings of the court shortly after Kalu was handed down a death sentence, Judge Advocate of the Court, Flight Lieutenant MA Umoh said when Kalu was taken into the witness box, he said he agreed that Sholape was his lover whom she had promised to propose marriage to in the presence of his mother.

He added that when his mother eventually came, he only introduced her as a lover but didn’t propose to her as promised because his mother had, the night before counseled him to face his study and prepare for his JAMB and NDA examinations rather than thinking about marriage at that age.

Kalu told the court that shortly after that period, he started noticing some kind of withdrawal from the relationship on the side of Sholape and during which he apologised and they got back together again.

He intimated that during her birthday last February, they had an issue over his failure to buy her a birthday present but that that too was quickly resolved.

However, he said on March 11, he went to Compound 9, Corporal and Below Quarters where Sholape had just gotten an accommodation and she introduced him to a young man, Samuel Echo as her boyfriend but that he was not comfortable with the young man because he suspected that he was having a love affair with Sholape.

He said that prompted him to quickly pick Sholape’s phone and scrolled through while they were alone and she was preparing food for him and that he was shocked to see some questionable chats as well as an unused condom by the side of the bed.

Kalu said as soon as Sholape appeared from the kitchen and saw him with the phone, she got angry and asked why he was going through her phone without her knowledge adding that when he asked her whether the young man who occupied the house was going to use the condom on her, she said, “now you know, so what else.”

He said that statement so angered him that he started having headache and he went back to his house to sleep but couldn’t sleep or do anything stressing that the next time, he saw himself putting on his camouflage uniform at his friend’s place and then he saw himself in the guardroom.

The convict said when he later came to himself, he asked why he was in the guardroom, he was shocked when somebody told him he had killed his girlfriend.

Asked during cross examination if he killed his girlfriend, Kalu said he did not kill her.

President of the court, Gp. Capt. Elisha Bindul found him guilty in six out of the eight-count charges proffered against him and sentenced him to death by hanging subject to the confirmation of the judgement by the conveying authority.

The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has asked former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and a media aide to governor of Ekiti state, Lere Olayinka, to publicly apologise and pay him the sum of N2n for linking him to the seized Ikoyi N13 billion.

The minister, who made the demand in separate letters dated 14th April, 2017, through his lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) also gave Fani-Kayode and Olayinka seven-day ultimatum to meet his conditions.

Amaechi is demanding N500m from Fani-Kayode as compensation for the alleged malicious posts by the former minister on his twitter handle on April 14.
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has denied owning the Ikoyi property where the sum of N13 billion was found.
He is also demanding two separate sums of N750m totaling N1.5bn from Olayinka as compensation for the alleged “malicious” posts by the Ekiti state governor’s spokesperson on his Facebook timeline and twitter handle on April 14, The Punch reports.
The counsel to the minister also warned that there would be stiff legal actions should Fani-Kayode and Olayinka fail to adhere to the demand over the alleged defamatory acts.

The lawyer in his letter to Fani-Kayode, said it was wrong for the former minister to assume that Amaechi owned the flat and the money found in it.
Fagbemi said Fani-Kayode should have verified his facts from the Land Registry, where there were proper records of property owners, in order ascertain the ownership of the property in question before making the allegation.

The lawyer accused Fani-Kayode of refusing to verify his facts in order to achieve a malicious aim.
According to Leadership, he quoted the offensive aspect of Fani-Kayode tweets as: “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in (sic) too. NIA’s story is fake news! NIA does not keep cash in minister’s flats.”

He said Amaechi neither owns the house where the cash was found, adding that the claim by Fani-Kayode was unfounded.
The letter reads in part: “Our client neither owns the cash nor the house where the cash was found and your story and claim are unfounded. As a matter of fact, our client does not own any house in Lagos State not to talk of keeping cash in one and your story is preposterous.

“Your twitter rant of 14/04/2014 at 04.16 was viewed by your 316. 000 followers, re-tweeted 1,209 times and made a favourite by 434 followers as of the time of writing this letter today at 7.15pm and the list is increasing by the minute and same has satisfied all the conditions needed for a successful defamation case against you.

“We have our client’s mandate to state to you unequivocally that the said twitter publication constitutes libel, and is defamatory of him as same (the claim) is aimed at impugning our client’s character and credit in the eyes of right thinking Nigerians and foreigners.”

The lawyer gave Fani-Kayode a seven-day ultimatum to tender apology to the minister and that such apology be carried by five national dailies, threatening to sue the former minister the demands were not met within seven days.
Besides, the lawyer in two separate letters, each relating separately to Facebook and Twitter posts by Olayinka, demanded the sums of N750m as compensation for each of the posts.

It was learnt that Fagbemi quoted Olayinka as stating in the posts: “The Osborne Towers, a luxury residential complex in lkoyi, Lagos where EFCC said it found $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 on Wednesday is owned by the Minister of Transportation. Rotimi Amaechi.”
He also accused Olayinka of falsely making adulterous imputation against his client, who he stated “contracted a valid statutory marriage within the Marriage Act, which prescribes a ‘one-man one-wife’ union".

The lawyer warned that the demand will increase with time if Olayinka fails to retract the statement and publication immediately.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has given a 14 day ultimatum to Governor Nyesom Wike, Governor Ayodele Fayose and Femi Fani-Kayode, to
apologise to the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for linking the Ikoyi $43m to the minister.

The APC in a statement on Monday, April 17, by the state chairman, of the party, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, described the accusation as an attempt to tarnish the image of Amaechi because he collaborated with other patriotic Nigerians to oust the PDP regime from power, The Punch reports.

The party maintained that apart from his Abuja residence, the minister does not have any single plot of land in any part of the country.

Imo industrial park to gulp $2bn – Okorocha
Gov. Rochas Okorocha of Imo on Monday said that the construction of Imo Industrial Park located at Asa community in Ohaji/Egbema Area of the state would cost N 2 billion dollars.
Okorocha, who made the disclosure when he visited the state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Owerri, said the park would stimulate economic activities in Imo, when fully developed.
“The Imo Industrial Park, which will include a gas plant at Asa in Ohaji, is the brain child of my government.
“It will be constructed under public/private partnership agreement and a foreign firm will fund the project with over $2 billion.
“Though the project may not be completed before 2019, but my appeal is that whosoever that will succeed me should support the project and see to its completion because the project will stimulate economic activities in Imo,” he said.
The governor, who listed various developmental projects he embarked on since assumption of office, said that his vision was to turn the state to one of the best for business in the world.
“When I assumed office as governor in 2011, most governors who visited Owerri usually did not like to pass a night in Owerri because the hospitality industry and the environment was still not up to acceptable international standard.
“Today, we receive hundreds of letters from groups requesting government’s approval for them to hold their programmes in Owerri,” he said.
According to him, the state can now boost of a lot of world class hospitality firms.
“Government is planning to organise three months training for the hospitality workers on ways to enhance their service delivery,” the governor stated.
On agricultural programme, Okorocha said that mega farms would be established in each of the 27 local government areas, while each commissioner, schools, churches, and professional bodies would be encouraged to set up farms.
He also said he would expand the executive council members to enable him realise the concluding programmes and projects already listed by his administration.
He said that after the urban renewal projects, from September 2017, he would commence the construction of 540km of rural roads spread across the 27 local government areas of the state.
Okorocha appealed to illustrious sons and daughters of Imo to invest at home, saying, “bringing your investments home is a better way to develop Imo and address the problem of unemployment and insecurity”.

The United Nations Children’s Fund has donated 1 ,000 doses of drugs to the Federal Capital Territory Primary Health Care Development Board for the treatment of Cerebrospinal Meningitis currently ravaging certain parts of the country.
The Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr . Rilwanu Mohammed , disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Thursday .
He explained that the drugs had been distributed to all general hospitals and teaching hospital in the territory .
According to him , the World Health Organisation also donated three stereotyping machines to carry out screening for CSM in FCT.
He told NAN that those machines were distributed to Maitama General Hospital, Jabi Medical Centre and University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada .
The secretary urged people living in Abuja to desist from self medication and report when they notice any sign of meningitis to the nearest hospitals .
Mohammed said that so far , six persons had died out of 10 suspected cases recorded in Abuja Municipality, Bwari and Kuje area councils.
He said he had exhausted the vaccines given to FCT but awaiting additional stocks from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency for the continuation of immunisation against meningitis .
He said his board had carried out immunisation in all the 22 Internally Displaced Persons ’ camps in Abuja because of their vulnerability to the disease .
The secretary enjoined residents of FCT not to panic, saying that the government was committed to tackling the spread of CSM in Abuja . (NAN )

The House of Representatives yesterday passed a resolution aimed at compelling MultiChoice Nigeria, a Pay-TV service provider to adopt the “ pay as you go” payment package option.
Adopting a motion moved by Mr. Abbas Tajudeen at the plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Sulaimon Yussuff Lasun, the House mandated its Committee on

Telecommunications to interface with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Consumer Protection Council and the MultiChoice to address concerns expressed by Nigerians over the planned increase in the prices of the various bouquet on offer on its Digital Satellite Television (DStv).
Lasun directed the committee to report back to the House in eight weeks for further legislative action.Tajudeen maintained that the ever increasing prices of the various bouquet on offer by MultiChoice and its refusal to offer a ‘Pay as you go’ package option on its bouquet is causing a financial strain on its subscribers.

The lawmaker observed that it has been the practice for the company to increase the prices of its various packages almost on a yearly basis, noting that in 2013 the monthly subscription increased by 7–10 per cent; in 2014 by 10-15 per cent and in 2015 by 10–22per cent, and just recently, the company sent a notification of another price increase with effect from May 1, 2017.

Also, the Ad hoc Committee on the Review of 1999 Constitution yesterday announced that it has stopped receiving proposals for the amendment of the constitution.
Chairman of the Committee and the House Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yusuff said the continuous admission of the proposals might delay the review exercise.
He said at the moment, the committee is compiling its reports, and is desirous of completing its assignment before the end of the third year of this administration.
The announcement coincided with the introduction of a bill by Edward Pwajok, PDP, Plateau, seeking to alter Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution to allow the National Assembly to remove a state governor or a deputy, whenever the situation warrants.
Pwajok said he was aware of the limits of powers of the National Assembly, concerning its involvement in the businesses of state assemblies, as contained in the constitution, but had to envisage situations, such as abuse of power, total breakdown of law and other extreme situations that could warrant the intervention of the apex lawmaking body in the future.
Members did not find Pwajok’s argument weighty enough that they asked him to withdraw the bill on the grounds that it was an attempt to usurp the powers of state legislators.

Though it’s unclear what album or mixtape the music will land on, the 29-year-old briefly mentioned what’s in store, writing: “Put my heart and my soul into this project! This gone be my best work by far! All this shit bought the best out me and I love it! #wins&losses.”

Though Meek has yet to confirm, many fans speculate the tracks will appear on DC 4.5. He’s been teasing the project since late 2016, sharing the tape’s cover art with the caption: “dropping any day.” We’re now in the second quarter of 2017, and all we have is a bunch of previews. Meek has clearly put in work, but we’re sure fans are more than ready for the new project…or at least a new single.

Five children killed in Abuja electricity fire

Five children have been reportedly killed in an inferno which occurred in Mpape community , in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The victims were said to have been burnt to death after fire gutted their apartment on Saturday.
PUNCH Metro gathered that there were sparks on the electric cables in the area after power was restored by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The sparks were said to have triggered a fire, which ravaged the victims’ parents apartment.
The children were said to have been trapped in the house and burnt to death.
Residents said they could not save them because there was no water in the community .
The district head of the community , Alhaji Abubakar Gimba , told
Ezeja. com, an online news site, that before the children could be brought out , they were already dead .
“We rushed to see how we could put out the fire , but before we could do that , the five children were already dead, ” he said.
The spokesperson for the AEDC, Ahmed Shekarau , said some officials of the company had gone on a fact -finding mission to ascertain the true cause of the fire .
Shekarau told PUNCH Metro that a resident informed the firm about the fire.
He said, “At the moment, we have sent our team to investigate and they have yet to report back to us . Yes , some people said the fire started after power was restored, but others said the fire started from the generator.
“It was just this morning that our attention was called to it by a resident of the community who attended a safety sensitisation campaign we organised last week .
“We are surprised they just told us . When we get a preliminary report, and it shows it has something to do with electricity , we will have to set up another committee to find out why it happened. ”
He later informed our correspondent that a committee had been set up by the management of the firm.
The Abuja police spokesperson , Anjuguri Manzah , said he had yet to be briefed .
He, however , promised to call back . He had yet to do so as of press time.

On whether she thinks her boobs are bigger than Cossy ’s own , she said, “I don’ t know about that . I have better things to do than to go about looking for whose breasts match the size of mine. Maybe you should be the judge of that . ”

Injured Moses may be out for two weeks

Super Eagles’ Midfielder, Victor Moses, who missed Chelsea’s 1-2 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend, could be out of action for two weeks, sources close to the London club have revealed. Moses, who is expected to miss today’s crunch tie against Manchester City, has been struggling with a calf injury he sustained in the Blues’ FA Cup win over Manchester United in March.

The knock, which kept Moses out of Nigeria’s squad for their international window, ensured he could not participate in training on Monday. Coach Antonio Conte lamented Moses’ absence in the loss to Crystal Palace, saying the Nigerian’s absence contributed to their defeat.

The Super Eagles star has been a hit at right wingback for the Blues this season, helping them establish a strong lead at the top of the Premier League table. “Victor Moses is an important player because he’s having a great season but Pedro played very well in that wingback position,” Conte told Chelsea’s official website.

“As wingers, they are very offensive and that showed we wanted to play our football. Pedro had a very good game.” Conte also added that the title race has become more interesting, with Tottenham cutting their lead to seven points.
“It makes it more interesting in the championship,” he said. “I always said that the league finishes when you have the mathematical team who won, otherwise you must fight and play every game to win, because in England there doesn’t exist an easy game.”

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that what is most paramount is for the present government to ensure that it does those things it promised to do.
Osinbajo stated this at the closing of a five-day induction programme for envoys in Abuja on Tuesday.
This was as he called on the recently approved non-career ambassadors-designates to treat all who visit Nigerian embassies, especially the citizens, with respect and dignity.
“The most important thing is to ensure that we do those things that we promised to do and we are determined to do those things. We have the capacity to do those things; we have the presence of mind to do them and we will.
“The most important of course is diversifying our economy to ensure that we are able to produce the various things that we consume.

“More importantly, that we also recognise that everyone who comes to the embassies and even Nigerians in particular are persons who need to be served with respect. That they need to be treated with dignity; they need to be treated with the kind of respect that people should ordinarily expect from those who say that they are serving them.

“I think that it will be very important that all of those who come to our embassies feel that they are respected and that they are treated properly whenever they choose to. The government will work very hard to ensure that we put in place all that is required.

While he noted that there are complaints that Nigerian embassies do not server its citizens well and always treat people shabbily and that they lacked facilities, Osinbajo assured that such issues were being looked at and a lot would be done ahead of the resumption of the ambassadors-designate to address them.
He called the envoys to try and familiarise themselves with the policies and programmes of government in order to deliver as well as always remember the three cardinal policies of the present administration, which is economy, security and anti-corruption.
Noting that corruption remains a major concern in the country, he said there must be a consensus to fight it to a standstill.
“We are not short of great ideas, but getting things done remains the issue. I want to say that there is great hope for a turnaround of our economy and that the turnaround is definitely in sight,” Osinbajo said.
He further told the envoys that the ease of doing business programme of the administration was crucial in the efforts to attract foreign investments.
