7 surefire ways social media can ruin your life

7 surefire ways social media can ruin your life
ON April 13, 2017

Social media has become a part of our daily life and many of us cannot do without it. What you don’t know is that your addiction to social media is affecting your lives negatively. Read on to know how social media can ruin your life.

Jumia travel, the leading online travel agency, urge you to perhaps cut down on the hours you spend on social twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

Overthinking emoticons
Some persons while interacting or chatting with someone, and they share an emoticon; they begin to give all sorts of meanings and interpretations to it. It is funny that Just because of an emoticon, they get themselves all worked up and worried. Why? It is just an emoticon.
Checking/updating every second
You have become so attached to

Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat that you are checking and updating them every second. The day you don’t access your accounts because you don’t have data, you become hysterical and irrational. It is not a matter of life and death.
Bragging about likes, followers and comments
The number of likes, followers and comments you have has become a thing to brag about and show off. The rule is that the more followers you have, the more traction and engagement you get. True, you do not have to boast about it. Some people go as far as buying likes, followers and even comments.
Posting without thinking
Many of us have converted social media to an abuse platform. A place where we criticize and troll people. As a result, more and more people are in trouble because of what they shared and said on social media. Presently, a popular US based Nigerian journalist Kemi Olunloyo is being charged to court because of the content she shared on social media. Always, think before you share.
Making up just because you want to share pix on Instagram
This is peculiar with girls. They do not have anywhere to go but they dress up, apply makeup and take beautiful pictures just to post on Instagram or Facebook. It is ridiculous.
Staying Up Late
We all do this. We spend hours flying from one social media platform to another. Meanwhile, we are very sleepy but we still continue browsing. Surprisingly, they sleep off while on twitter or WhatsApp. Hence, many of us don’t get enough sleep because of social media.
Seeking social media validation
Seeking social media validation can lead to depression. This is because you wait for others to give you approval for your life activities. If you don’t get the desired response, you become depressed. You should stop seeking social media validation and live your life.

Amaechi demands N2bn compensation from Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s aide

Amaechi demands N2bn compensation from Fani-Kayode, Fayose’s aide

- The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has given Fani-Kayode and a media aide to the governor of Ekiti state, Lere Olayinka, seven-day ultimatum to retract statement they made against him
- Counsel to the minister, Lateef Fagbemi, is demanding N500m from Fani-Kayode as compensation for the alleged malicious posts by the former minister on his twitter handle on April 14
- The lawyer in two separate letters, each relating separately to Facebook and Twitter posts by Olayinka, is demanding the sums of N750m as compensation for each of the posts
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has asked former minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode and a media aide to governor of Ekiti state, Lere Olayinka, to publicly apologise and pay him the sum of N2n for linking him to the seized Ikoyi N13 billion.

The minister, who made the demand in separate letters dated 14th April, 2017, through his lawyer, Prince Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) also gave Fani-Kayode and Olayinka seven-day ultimatum to meet his conditions.

Amaechi is demanding N500m from Fani-Kayode as compensation for the alleged malicious posts by the former minister on his twitter handle on April 14.
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has denied owning the Ikoyi property where the sum of N13 billion was found.
He is also demanding two separate sums of N750m totaling N1.5bn from Olayinka as compensation for the alleged “malicious” posts by the Ekiti state governor’s spokesperson on his Facebook timeline and twitter handle on April 14, The Punch reports.
The counsel to the minister also warned that there would be stiff legal actions should Fani-Kayode and Olayinka fail to adhere to the demand over the alleged defamatory acts.

The lawyer in his letter to Fani-Kayode, said it was wrong for the former minister to assume that Amaechi owned the flat and the money found in it.
Fagbemi said Fani-Kayode should have verified his facts from the Land Registry, where there were proper records of property owners, in order ascertain the ownership of the property in question before making the allegation.

The lawyer accused Fani-Kayode of refusing to verify his facts in order to achieve a malicious aim.
According to Leadership, he quoted the offensive aspect of Fani-Kayode tweets as: “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in (sic) too. NIA’s story is fake news! NIA does not keep cash in minister’s flats.”

He said Amaechi neither owns the house where the cash was found, adding that the claim by Fani-Kayode was unfounded.
The letter reads in part: “Our client neither owns the cash nor the house where the cash was found and your story and claim are unfounded. As a matter of fact, our client does not own any house in Lagos State not to talk of keeping cash in one and your story is preposterous.

“Your twitter rant of 14/04/2014 at 04.16 was viewed by your 316. 000 followers, re-tweeted 1,209 times and made a favourite by 434 followers as of the time of writing this letter today at 7.15pm and the list is increasing by the minute and same has satisfied all the conditions needed for a successful defamation case against you.

“We have our client’s mandate to state to you unequivocally that the said twitter publication constitutes libel, and is defamatory of him as same (the claim) is aimed at impugning our client’s character and credit in the eyes of right thinking Nigerians and foreigners.”

The lawyer gave Fani-Kayode a seven-day ultimatum to tender apology to the minister and that such apology be carried by five national dailies, threatening to sue the former minister the demands were not met within seven days.
Besides, the lawyer in two separate letters, each relating separately to Facebook and Twitter posts by Olayinka, demanded the sums of N750m as compensation for each of the posts.

It was learnt that Fagbemi quoted Olayinka as stating in the posts: “The Osborne Towers, a luxury residential complex in lkoyi, Lagos where EFCC said it found $43,449,947, £27,800 and N23,218,000 on Wednesday is owned by the Minister of Transportation. Rotimi Amaechi.”
He also accused Olayinka of falsely making adulterous imputation against his client, who he stated “contracted a valid statutory marriage within the Marriage Act, which prescribes a ‘one-man one-wife’ union".

The lawyer warned that the demand will increase with time if Olayinka fails to retract the statement and publication immediately.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers state has given a 14 day ultimatum to Governor Nyesom Wike, Governor Ayodele Fayose and Femi Fani-Kayode, to
apologise to the minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi for linking the Ikoyi $43m to the minister.

The APC in a statement on Monday, April 17, by the state chairman, of the party, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya, described the accusation as an attempt to tarnish the image of Amaechi because he collaborated with other patriotic Nigerians to oust the PDP regime from power, The Punch reports.

The party maintained that apart from his Abuja residence, the minister does not have any single plot of land in any part of the country.

the deputy national publicity secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, faults the party's leadership.

The House of Representatives yesterday passed a resolution aimed at compelling MultiChoice Nigeria, a Pay-TV service provider to adopt the “ pay as you go” payment package option.
Adopting a motion moved by Mr. Abbas Tajudeen at the plenary presided by the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Sulaimon Yussuff Lasun, the House mandated its Committee on
Telecommunications to interface with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Consumer Protection Council and the MultiChoice to address concerns expressed by Nigerians over the planned increase in the prices of the various bouquet on offer on its Digital Satellite Television (DStv).
Lasun directed the committee to report back to the House in eight weeks for further legislative action.Tajudeen maintained that the ever increasing prices of the various bouquet on offer by MultiChoice and its refusal to offer a ‘Pay as you go’ package option on its bouquet is causing a financial strain on its subscribers.
The lawmaker observed that it has been the practice for the company to increase the prices of its various packages almost on a yearly basis, noting that in 2013 the monthly subscription increased by 7–10 per cent; in 2014 by 10-15 per cent and in 2015 by 10–22per cent, and just recently, the company sent a notification of another price increase with effect from May 1, 2017.
Also, the House enjoined the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials for the displaced victims of a devastating rainstorm in Akoko
Edo Federal Constituency of Edo State recently.
Adopting a motion sponsored by Mr. Peter Akpatason, the House mandated its Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to visit the communities affected and turn out its report on how to avert a future reoccurrence within two weeks.
Also, the Ad hoc Committee on the Review of 1999 Constitution yesterday announced that it has stopped receiving proposals for the amendment of the constitution.
Chairman of the Committee and the House Deputy Speaker, Lasun Yusuff said the continuous admission of the proposals might delay the review exercise.
He said at the moment, the committee is compiling its reports, and is desirous of completing its assignment before the end of the third year of this administration.
The announcement coincided with the introduction of a bill by Edward Pwajok, PDP, Plateau, seeking to alter Section 11(4) of the 1999 Constitution to allow the National Assembly to remove a state governor or a deputy, whenever the situation warrants.
Pwajok said he was aware of the limits of powers of the National Assembly, concerning its involvement in the businesses of state assemblies, as contained in the constitution, but had to envisage situations, such as abuse of power, total breakdown of law and other extreme situations that could warrant the intervention of the apex lawmaking body in the future.
Members did not find Pwajok’s argument weighty enough that they asked him to withdraw the bill on the grounds that it was an attempt to usurp the powers of state legislators.

Poetry Session: ” Your Side Of The Story ” – @iamheadrush_

Poetry Session: ” Your Side Of The Story ” – @iamheadrush_

I woke up with you in mind
Wondering where do we go from here
I have said it all before, not knowing if you heard
I will say it all again, if only that’s what it takes to get you there
But then, you haven’t said what all these mean to you
I still don’t know if you in for the long bus ride
Or sitting at the bus stop enjoying the view
I’m not one to assume, you know where I’m headed
But I’m in no rush to get there
I really can’t say I get you
Cos you haven’t really said you
I’m a very cautious person even if I always jump in heart first
It’s only cos I’m passionate about what I find interesting
My brain is on the brakes, this is where you meet me halfway
For only then can we go all the way.
Like you said, actions and words in equal proportion makes the difference
So how will you write your side of the story?

A post shared by Meek Mill...
Meek Mill returns with more previews.

Over the weekend, the Philadelphia rapper shared snippets of three new songs on Instagram. The teasers arrived less than two weeks after Meek gave fans a taste of his new collaboration with Young Thug, which suggests his new project is right around the corner.

Though it’s unclear what album or mixtape the music will land on, the 29-year-old briefly mentioned what’s in store, writing: “Put my heart and my soul into this project! This gone be my best work by far! All this shit bought the best out me and I love it! #wins&losses.”

Though Meek has yet to confirm, many fans speculate the tracks will appear on DC 4.5. He’s been teasing the project since late 2016, sharing the tape’s cover art with the caption: “dropping any day.” We’re now in the second quarter of 2017, and all we have is a bunch of previews. Meek has clearly put in work, but we’re sure fans are more than ready for the new project…or at least a new single.

You can check out the snippets in the Instagram posts below. On two of the posts, Meek claims new music is “on the way” and “coming soon.” We’ll have to wait to see what he means by “soon.”

Five children killed in Abuja electricity fire

Five children have been reportedly killed in an inferno which occurred in Mpape community , in the Bwari area of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The victims were said to have been burnt to death after fire gutted their apartment on Saturday.
PUNCH Metro gathered that there were sparks on the electric cables in the area after power was restored by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The sparks were said to have triggered a fire, which ravaged the victims’ parents apartment.
The children were said to have been trapped in the house and burnt to death.
Residents said they could not save them because there was no water in the community .
The district head of the community , Alhaji Abubakar Gimba , told
Ezeja. com, an online news site, that before the children could be brought out , they were already dead .
“We rushed to see how we could put out the fire , but before we could do that , the five children were already dead, ” he said.
The spokesperson for the AEDC, Ahmed Shekarau , said some officials of the company had gone on a fact -finding mission to ascertain the true cause of the fire .
Shekarau told PUNCH Metro that a resident informed the firm about the fire.
He said, “At the moment, we have sent our team to investigate and they have yet to report back to us . Yes , some people said the fire started after power was restored, but others said the fire started from the generator.
“It was just this morning that our attention was called to it by a resident of the community who attended a safety sensitisation campaign we organised last week .
“We are surprised they just told us . When we get a preliminary report, and it shows it has something to do with electricity , we will have to set up another committee to find out why it happened. ”
He later informed our correspondent that a committee had been set up by the management of the firm.
The Abuja police spokesperson , Anjuguri Manzah , said he had yet to be briefed .
He, however , promised to call back . He had yet to do so as of press time.

My big boobs are not a burden –Ejine Okoroafor

When it comes to boobs , Ejine Okoroafor has it in abundance. The budding actress is so busty that every time she walks past, she is certain to cause men pain in the neck region .
Tall and fair - skinned , her ample bosom will make the self- acclaimed ‘boobs queen ’ of Nollywood , Cossy Ojiakor, go green with envy.
However, unlike what many think that big boobs cause back pain for its owners , Ejine says she is perfectly pleased with the way God created her . In a chat with Sunday Scoop, she said, “The Bible says that God created me beautifully and wonderfully in His own image and I don’ t have reason to complain . I am in love with myself and I thank God for blessing me this much. ”
When asked if she sometimes considers them a burden , she quipped, “ How can it be a burden ? It is not like I went under the knife to make my breasts this big ; it is a natural endowment . I have had big boobs for a long time and I ’m used to them going everywhere with me . Besides , I am not the only one with big boobs in my family as my sister is also blessed with same . ”
On whether she thinks her boobs are bigger than Cossy ’s own , she said, “I don’ t know about that . I have better things to do than to go about looking for whose breasts match the size of mine. Maybe you should be the judge of that . ”

Injured Moses may be out for two weeks

Doubtful for Manchester City game

Super Eagles’ Midfielder, Victor Moses, who missed Chelsea’s 1-2 loss to Crystal Palace at the weekend, could be out of action for two weeks, sources close to the London club have revealed. Moses, who is expected to miss today’s crunch tie against Manchester City, has been struggling with a calf injury he sustained in the Blues’ FA Cup win over Manchester United in March.

The knock, which kept Moses out of Nigeria’s squad for their international window, ensured he could not participate in training on Monday. Coach Antonio Conte lamented Moses’ absence in the loss to Crystal Palace, saying the Nigerian’s absence contributed to their defeat.

The Super Eagles star has been a hit at right wingback for the Blues this season, helping them establish a strong lead at the top of the Premier League table. “Victor Moses is an important player because he’s having a great season but Pedro played very well in that wingback position,” Conte told Chelsea’s official website.

“As wingers, they are very offensive and that showed we wanted to play our football. Pedro had a very good game.” Conte also added that the title race has become more interesting, with Tottenham cutting their lead to seven points.
“It makes it more interesting in the championship,” he said. “I always said that the league finishes when you have the mathematical team who won, otherwise you must fight and play every game to win, because in England there doesn’t exist an easy game.”

What we regard as most important –Osinbajo 

What we regard as most important –Osinbajo

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has said that what is most paramount is for the present government to ensure that it does those things it promised to do.
Osinbajo stated this at the closing of a five-day induction programme for envoys in Abuja on Tuesday.
This was as he called on the recently approved non-career ambassadors-designates to treat all who visit Nigerian embassies, especially the citizens, with respect and dignity.
“The most important thing is to ensure that we do those things that we promised to do and we are determined to do those things. We have the capacity to do those things; we have the presence of mind to do them and we will.
“The most important of course is diversifying our economy to ensure that we are able to produce the various things that we consume.

“More importantly, that we also recognise that everyone who comes to the embassies and even Nigerians in particular are persons who need to be served with respect. That they need to be treated with dignity; they need to be treated with the kind of respect that people should ordinarily expect from those who say that they are serving them.

“I think that it will be very important that all of those who come to our embassies feel that they are respected and that they are treated properly whenever they choose to. The government will work very hard to ensure that we put in place all that is required.

While he noted that there are complaints that Nigerian embassies do not server its citizens well and always treat people shabbily and that they lacked facilities, Osinbajo assured that such issues were being looked at and a lot would be done ahead of the resumption of the ambassadors-designate to address them.
He called the envoys to try and familiarise themselves with the policies and programmes of government in order to deliver as well as always remember the three cardinal policies of the present administration, which is economy, security and anti-corruption.
Noting that corruption remains a major concern in the country, he said there must be a consensus to fight it to a standstill.
“We are not short of great ideas, but getting things done remains the issue. I want to say that there is great hope for a turnaround of our economy and that the turnaround is definitely in sight,” Osinbajo said.
He further told the envoys that the ease of doing business programme of the administration was crucial in the efforts to attract foreign investments.

Things you probably don't know about Facebook: and how to overcome its addiction.

How to Defeat a Facebook Addiction
Probably the most widely used and known social networking site, almost half of Facebook's users visit it every day.

[1] And some of its users spend an inordinate amount of time on Facebook, allowing the hours to wile away unnoticed, the chores to go uncompleted, and even going so far as to ignore family and friends in the actual world.

[2]
While "Facebook addiction" or "Facebook addiction disorder" are not medically approved terms, the reality of addictive behaviors on Facebook are a growing problem for many Facebook users, and one that therapists are seeing more frequently in their patients.

[3]
If you've found that connecting, sharing, and learning via Facebook has taken over all avenues of communicating and learning in your life, it's possible that you're suffering from Facebook addiction. And relax ! This article isn't about stopping your enjoyment of Facebook; rather, the aim here is to help you identify whether you're using Facebook in an addictive way, and help you to find more constructive ways to connect socially via Facebook.

Step
Recognize the signs of a Facebook addiction. While there is currently no such thing as a medically blessed diagnosable "Facebook addiction" or "Facebook addiction disorder" that a health or medical professional could categorically state you're suffering from, addictive behaviors have common threads that can lead to dysfunctional socializing and obsessive behaviors. The following signs indicate an unhealthy neediness for Facebook:
You wake up and the first thing you do is "check Facebook". And it's the last thing you do at night.
Nothing else thrills you or you feel "empty" without Facebook. All you want to do is spend time on Facebook, even to the exclusion of getting work done that needs to be done, or meeting family obligations. When not being on Facebook causes physical pain, sweats, illness and you're chomping at the leash to get back on it, your
obsession has become an unhealthy one.

You're not able to go for more than a day without using Facebook. If forced to do so, you find yourself suffering from Facebook "withdrawal" symptoms, such as finding nothing else interesting, trying to find ways to get back to Facebook even if it means using a computer that is either out of bounds (for example, not yours), or difficult to get to, or you find yourself intensely worried about missing out on Facebook updates. These are all very unhealthy signs.
Even if you're not on Facebook constantly (indicating you need a reality check), checking it many times during the day is a sign of compulsive behavior. Spending more than an hour on Facebook a day will easily cut into all the other obligations you have in life and may cause social dysfunction problems.

[4]
Your real life isn't going so well and Facebook presents a fantasy escape life where everything seems unencumbered, neat, happy, and easy – all things that are the opposite of your everyday life.
Adequate sleep ceases to be important to you.

[5] Instead, you're prepared to stay up way too late just to be able to accommodate your Facebook neediness. After all, you excuse yourself, your friends might think it's remiss of you not to be around!
Nostalgia has you in its grip. When Facebook starts becoming a way through which you're living in the past, it's a sign of needing to break from it.

[6] Rehashing old loves and
friendships with the hope that you can pinpoint the exact moment where your life should have taken a different turn and trying to patch it up through fantasizing over Facebook is looking backwards and beating yourself up over what didn't work out. Realize the importance of living in the here and now. This type of nostalgia is even more damaging if you have a loose tongue about the relationships you're actually in because other people will be reading your words and some may perceive them as a betrayal or as signs of an emotional affair.
You have tons of friends on Facebook but you still feel very
lonely .

[7]
Start questioning what you're doing on Facebook. Rather than simply going on Facebook and "falling under its spell", start consciously determining what you're really getting out of Facebook. Asking questions about its value to you in your own life's context is healthy, especially when you feel that you might have been overdoing it a bit. Whittle down to the things that bring real value, within a defined time limitation. Record what you're doing on Facebook for a week. Be diligent about this reality check task and don't spare yourself; buy a small notebook and devote time to its updating. Things in particular to keep an eye out for include:
If you're just checking in to respond to pokes, to see friends updating their profiles, to write a new note, or to see what songs your friends are adding, you're addicted to trivia. And letting trivia run your day is not conducive to a satisfying life long-term!
Are you wandering about Facebook aimlessly? You've just confirmed a new friend, and you're curious as to the friends of that friend and whether any are your friends, or could be your friends, and what those friends are doing? If this sounds all too familiar, your time on Facebook has turned aimless. And you're being lulled into this by the connectivity ease of Facebook without being alert to the lack of productivity resulting.
Are you excusing yourself because of work? Even someone using Facebook for business purposes can start allowing the business socializing to bleed into general socializing under the rubric of "work". It's important to notice when you're falling into this transitional phase and to demarcate work and socializing, in order to put a time limit on both. Otherwise, you're giving yourself too large a justification to just keep on keeping on Facebook.

Is that friend really a friend ? How beneficial is maintaining a friendship with someone you've never met but linked up just because they were a friend of a friend of a real friend of yours? They might be amazing but if they're barely connecting with you, they might be part of the peripheral distractions that are causing you to sink into Facebook rather than interact on Facebook in ways that have true value.

Is any of what you're doing constructive either from a personal or a professional point of view? Be honest with yourself!
Decide what is of value on Facebook. Whatever the reason for being a part of Facebook,
boundaries matter and knowing what is of value and what is not will help you to rein in poor online habits. Even a reason of wanting to ensure that your family is kept up-to-date of your interstate or overseas happenings can meander out of control if your concept of "family" expands. If you use Facebook for work and personal reasons, the value will probably be broader, but it is still important to define the value boundaries for work and personal time. When deciding upon what value you're getting out of Facebook, consider the following:
Are you enjoying it? Is this enjoyment balanced with a whole range of other enjoyable pursuits in your life too?

Do you feel obliged to respond to some people on Facebook even though you'd prefer not to?
Which parts of Facebook really do improve your personal and professional life? It can be helpful to list these for clarity, and to clear some of the negativity and the trivia.
Try giving up Facebook for a specific event to see how you fare. This article is not advocating leaving Facebook entirely unless that's the choice you feel you want to take. However, it can be very advantageous to choose a special event and to decide that for the duration of that event, that you will not use Facebook at all. You can even warn your other Facebook friends that this event is coming up but whatever you do, stick to it. For example, some Facebook users take summer vacation breaks, some take a break for a religious observance such as Lent, [8] and some people take breaks when special family events such as a
wedding or a birthday are coming up and they need to prepare, travel, be available for it, etc., without wanting to be distracted.
Any well defined event carries significance for breaking a habit because they represent occasions during which you need to focus on other than yourself, whether it be faith, family, or some other important external matter. This can help to take you outside of any internal funk that has you glued to Facebook, as well as providing a set period during which you've promised yourself that you won't use Facebook. During this break, reflect on your Facebook neediness and think through how to restore a more even-keeled approach to using Facebook.

The good thing about telling your Facebook friends that you won't be on for a bit is that you've just burned a bridge that will cause you to "lose face " if you do sneak on. Be strong and give them the reassurance that you're one to keep your word.
Target solutions to enable smarter, brighter usage of Facebook in the future. While you could quit Facebook , it's probably far more productive, constructive, and socially useful to manage it and to put Facebook in its place in your life. Some of the positive solutions for healthy Facebook usage include (and you'll think of others):
Avoid fiddling with the periphery. Take a good look at your profile. Does it work for you or does it bother you? Changing a profile image over and over is a sign of worrying too much about your Facebook image. If the current image works, leave it be. If it bothers you, fix it right now, photo included. Why? Because once you fix it, be prepared to leave it alone for a long time. Keeping your profile stable will build trust in the online environment; not constantly trying to update it will spare you one more unnecessary fiddle on Facebook.

Stop changing your status frequently. Think "so what?" before attempting to do this. Every time you change it, it clogs up your friends' news feeds. Why do you feel compelled to announce your every move or mood you are temporarily experiencing? It ceases to be of interest for others, and it's more unnecessary fiddling for you!
Think of how often you use
Facebook applications. In order to use an application, you must install it on your account. And then use it; and many apps are compelling enough to draw users in for hours at a time.

[9] Before adding any application ask yourself "How productive is this?" If it is worthless, think about what it's doing to your friends who get to be at the receiving end of your invitations to gain points, receive gifts, or to see results... Each time a person receives an invitation, they need to accept or ignore it. Don't be the cause of other people's fiddling. And make applications work for you, not the other way round; get rid of the ones that are sheer time-wasters or pointless.

Be careful of the race to have as many friends as possible. If you're driven to have more friends on Facebook than you can ever realistically engage with regularly, it's important to stop what is, effectively, a "friendship addiction".

[10] Having more friends than you can realistically connect with can be a source of anxiety rather than pleasure. Enjoy the friends you already have on Facebook but weed out those who aren't adding anything to your Facebook experience.
Given that Facebook almost compels you to add friends, if you're vulnerable to defining your self worth through the
amount of friendships rather than the quality of them, then Facebook can be dangerous for you while you're recovering from any other sort of addiction or going through emotionally difficult times.

[11] Resist the urge to add people you don't really know or want to engage with, and to cull those who mean very little to you from your friends list.
Beware of the potential of Facebook to increase a sense of loneliness rather than assuage it. Spending time on Facebook rather than with face-to-face friends will increase any feelings of loneliness you may already have and ironically, the more people you're trying to keep apace with, the lonelier it'll seem because you'll end up with quantity rather than quality.

[12] Switch from using Facebook as a substitute for friendships to using it as a way to energize and synergize the friendships you already have.

[13]
Avoid being a Facebook automaton. If you're caught saying, "I'll Facebook you later" or "I'm going to do some Facebooking", then you're well overdue for taking a break from the site to hang out with friends in the real world (or offline life). Every time you feel like saying "I'll Facebook you", check yourself and rephrase that with "I'll see you", or "I'll call you". And mean it - settle the catch-up time straight away...
Make it hard to go on Facebook. Ask someone to put password on your PC or laptop so you can´t go on Facebook. In an extreme case, delete your Facebook account. By knowing ahead that you will never go back to it, you find a way to enjoy other stuff you're doing in the present instead of being impatient and thinking "How much longer is it going to be till I check Facebook one more time?"
Decide that you don't need to see all the news feed that appeared since you were last on. No matter how much news feed you get, there could have been even more that there wasn't. There's no difference between missing a post and that post never having existed which you would have had no problem with. The point is to see at least one super-interesting post, not to see all of them. Sometimes somebody thinks of a topic and wishes there existed a YouTube video on that topic but that's a lot rarer than an endless chain of deciding that since you saw a suggestion, it looks interesting so you decide you must see it.

Make it less appealing! When using Facebook you can choose what appears on your timeline, by liking pages, joining groups and hiding annoying people you create a custom made "safe-web-space" filled with information that appeals to you with no negatives. Unblock those who constantly post selfies and share Britain First posts and simply visit the websites of pages you enjoy (or find alternatives) rather than viewing them through Facebook. Nothing short of a library will cure your information addiction.

Jose Mourinho may switch Manchester United focus to Europa League

Jose Mourinho may switch Manchester United focus to Europa
League
ESPN staff

Jose Mourinho has said Manchester United could switch their focus from the Premier League to the Europa League if they lose sight of a top-four finish this week.
United are currently fifth, five points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with a game in hand, after having to settle for draws against Bournemouth and West Brom in their last three league games.

They face Everton on Tuesday followed by rock-bottom Sunderland on Sunday, and among the eight games that follow they must face Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Mourinho had previously indicated he may prioritise the Europa League -- where United are favourites and face Belgian side Anderlecht in the quarterfinals this month -- as that competition may provide an easier route to Champions League qualification. While he has not yet given up on a top-four Premier League finish, he said that could change after their next two games.

"I just want to think that against Everton we are going to do what we tried to do [against West Brom], to try to play with our best team and try to win the match, and after Everton we go to Sunderland with the same perspective," Mourinho told reporters. "And then after Sunderland the Europa League comes and I don't know.

"Then, it's possible that you see me play in the Premier League with a team where I'm going to protect the players that I consider fundamental for the Europa League -- but only, only if the results in the next matches put us in a situation where, mathematically, it becomes almost impossible to do it.

"I go with mathematics. Until it's impossible mathematically, we keep trying. Because this week is a week without the Europa League, we have nothing to think about with the Europa League. This week is easy. From the focus point of view, it's easy. We have to play Everton, we have to play Sunderland, and in these two matches we have to go for them thinking about the Premier League and nothing else.

"After that match against Sunderland, then we have Anderlecht and the quarterfinals of the Europa League are very important for us."

Mourinho praised his defence but was critical of his attack after the 0-0 draw with West Brom, saying the players selected -- Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitartyan -- lacked consistency and had missed "incredible chances."
"It's every day [they miss], so I keep doing what I'm doing during the season," he added. "I give chances. I try. Play again. Come on. Keep going. You have talent. They know they have talent. OK, let's go. Let's try. Let's have one more opportunity. No pressure. Keep going. There is nothing else we can do."

Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be available for the game against Everton after serving a three-match suspension for an elbow in the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth, but Mourinho said:

"We've had matches here with Zlatan that we drew.
"He [missed] a penalty in a game to win it 2-1 [against Bournemouth]. He missed chances like other people did too, so I cannot say now that if Zlatan and [the injured Juan] Mata played, we win against West Brom. I cannot say that.

"What I can say is that [Phil] Jones and [Chris] Smalling, they would not play better than [Eric] Bailly and [Marcos] Rojo did. [Paul] Pogba and [Ander] Herrera could not play better than [Marouane] Fellaini and [Michael] Carrick did. That I can say for sure."

Hazard very happy at Chelsea amid reported Real Madrid interest Liam Twomey

Eden Hazard very happy at Chelsea amid reported Real Madrid interest

Eden Hazard has laughed off the suggestion that he could be interested in a world-record move to Real Madrid and said he has "things to finish" at Chelsea this season.
Speculation of a transfer gathered momentum during the international break, with Spanish newspaper Marca reporting that Madrid want to make Hazard their next big signing and claiming that Chelsea have indicated they are willing to discuss terms on a deal that could surpass Paul Pogba's £89.3 million move from Juventus to Manchester United last August.

Chelsea's stance is that Hazard is not for sale at any price and in a news conference on Friday, head coach Antonio Conte said that Hazard can fulfil his footballing ambitions at Stamford Bridge and described Madrid's public interest as a compliment rather than a distraction.

Asked by Belgian journalist Claude Atcheba if he would be interested in a summer move to Spain, following Chelsea's 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on Saturday, Hazard laughed and replied: "Why do you want to put me in s---? No, I'm very well here. I have stuff to finish this year. I have a contract until 2020. For now I'm here."

Hazard could not add to his tally of 11 Premier League goals this season as strikes from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke enabled Palace to hand Chelsea their first loss since January -- a result that narrows their lead over second-placed Tottenham at the top of the table to seven points with nine matches left.

"It's disappointing, at half-time we came in and hoped to play better in the second half," teammate Thibaut Courtois told Chelsea's official website.

"The first half wasn't bad, we scored very early which was good against a team like Palace, but in two or three minutes we maybe lost a bit of concentration and gave away two goals.
"With the first Zaha did well, but then we were pushing forward, we left too many spaces in behind and they scored. We tried to fight back but the ball didn't want to go in which is frustrating.

"After the second goal it was hard to break them down. We had a few chances, maybe not the biggest ones, but the ball didn't fall for us."
Manchester City can reignite the Premier League title race if they emulate Palace's achievement at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, but Courtois said Chelsea will approach the game in a positive frame of mind.

"It's important to win on Wednesday," he added. "Spurs will be hoping we lose again so they can close the gap to four points, but we will start working again. We know what we are doing, we don't need to think about losing again, we just need to focus and try to win the game on Wednesday."

Luke Shaw's Manchester United future looks bleak after Jose

Luke Shaw's Manchester United future looks bleak after Jose

Mourinho accused the left-back of being a "long way behind'' his teammates.
A fine start to last season was brought to an excruciating end by a double leg break, but the 2016-17 campaign has arguably been even more frustrating for the 21-year-old.
Shaw has made just two United appearances in the last four months -- despite overcoming niggles related to a long lay-off and being fit since mid-January -- and been publicly criticised by Mourinho on several occasions.
The England left-back's last match came a month ago against Bournemouth when, according to Press Association Sport, Mourinho was angered by the left-back speaking to an opposition player at half-time.
Relations have been frosty ever since and, despite doing extra sessions at home on top of United training, the future looks gloomy for the left-back, much to the bemusement of the player, along with some teammates and staff.
Shaw's place in the pecking order was hammered home by Mourinho leaving him out of the squad entirely on Saturday, despite a spate of absentees leading to Matthew Willock being named on the bench for the first time against West Brom.
Asked what Shaw needs to do to get on the bench, Mourinho said: "Who? Luke Shaw? It's difficult for him to be on the bench. Because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with [Matteo] Darmian, with [Daley] Blind. I cannot compare the way he trains, the way he way he commits, the focus, the ambition. I cannot compare. He is a long way behind.''
Mourinho's body language was as damning as his words, just days after England manager Gareth Southgate showed his faith in Shaw by bringing him off the bench in Germany.
"Joe Hart is an English international and is playing on loan in Italy,'' the United manager added.
While Hart had to settle for Torino, there is understood to be plenty of interest in Shaw should he be made available this summer -- three years after United made him the world's most expensive teenager.

He is not alone in being targeted by Mourinho this weekend, with the manager having laid into his attack and accused some of his players of disappearing against West Brom.
Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were the focus of ire after the 0-0 draw, with the United boss saying such consistency is not a one-off.
"It's not today,'' he said. "It's every day. It's every day, so I keep doing what I'm doing during the season. I try, I give chances. I give chances, I try. Play again. Play again. Come on. Keep going. You have talent. They know they have talent. Okay, let's go. Let's try. Let's have one more opportunity. No pressure. Keep going, keep going, keep going. There is nothing else we can do.''

With $6.7 billion in public money, NFL closes stadium era

With $6.7 billion in public money, NFL closes stadium era
PHOENIX -- That oughta do it. The NFL's two-decade blitz of stadium development largely ended this week with the granddaddy of them all: a nearly $1 billion gift from the tax coffers of Nevada to lure the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas for the 2020 season.
With the Raiders' future settled, there are no more NFL stadium flashpoints on the near horizon and -- more importantly -- no obvious cities to be used as leverage against municipalities that refuse to provide public assistance. Perhaps the only team with a looming issue is the Buffalo Bills, who might soon push to replace 44-year-old New Era Stadium, but they have a lease through 2023 and are just three years removed from $130 million in taxpayer-funded renovations.
So after an era in which 21 new stadiums were built and three others were heavily renovated, thanks in large part to an estimated $6.7 billion in public money, the league appears to have hit a natural resting point. Monday, I asked Eric Grubman -- the NFL's executive vice president and point person on stadium politics -- if he agreed.
"Yes and no," Grubman said. He noted there are three catalysts for a stadium crisis: an aging facility, a lack of recent maintenance and a short-term lease.
"If you have those three things," he said, "the owner is going to be looking around -- and other cities are going to be looking around. You don't wake up one day and it happens. There is a drumbeat, and I don't see that drumbeat right now in any other city.
"But if you take the long-term view, it's a constant thing. Owners and cities and fans need to understand that. If you build a house, it's not like you never ever do anything to the house for the next 30 years. You have to pay attention to it. It has to be a constant [maintenance]. Everybody's got to pull on those oars."
Given his role in the league, we can't expect Grubman to say the league's stadium games have concluded. But commissioner Roger Goodell's long-standing goal to have "32 stable franchises in their market," a sentiment he reiterated Monday, seems close to fruition. The journey to this point includes some remarkable numbers that merit further inspection.
I arrived at the $6.7 billion public price tag using public reports and research from John McTigue of ESPN Stats & Information. Not everyone classifies public money the same way, but here's how we landed on that estimate.
Between 2000 and the start of the 2020 season, the NFL will have opened 16 new stadiums with the help of $5 billion in public contributions. Two of those stadiums didn't factor in that $5 billion -- MetLife in New Jersey and the in-progress megastructure near Los Angeles -- because they were financed with 100 percent private money.
During the same period, the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears used $557 million in public money to gut and rebuild their buildings. In 2011, the Kansas City Chiefs received $262 million for a major renovation of 45-year-old Arrowhead Stadium. Those three projects totaled about $820 million in subsidies.
Going further back, five franchises built stadiums from 1997 to '99 at a time when they were far less costly. Still, the Washington Redskins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans coerced a not-insignificant $873 million in combined public monies to help with construction.
That's a big part of the how the NFL built a fortress of stadiums and became the richest sports league in America. The effort has been stunning in magnitude, brutal in its lack of sentimentality, and instructive for its insight into league operations.
Most notably: the NFL doesn't bluff.
Plenty of municipalities have wondered whether the league would yank franchises long intertwined in civic culture. Most chose not to find out and negotiated the best agreement possible. Those that did -- for their own justified reasons, in my opinion -- paid the price. The cities of St. Louis, San Diego and Oakland likely have lost pro football forever.
In addition, the decision to "evolve" on the Las Vegas gambling issue -- and to look past its relatively low population and small business community -- raises the stakes for any future stadium standoff. There is now precedent to move to a nontraditional location. While no obvious relocation hosts come to mind at the moment, recent events suggest we shouldn't rule out places such as Toronto, Mexico City and London down the road.
"It's not by accident that there are other markets that could be suitable for teams," Grubman said. "It's a high-class problem if all 32 are doing fine in their markets and we still have unfilled demand. Who wouldn't want that? We want that."
Further, a word of caution is necessary as we attempt to put a bracket on this portion of NFL history. While you and I might have a hard time composing a list of stadium-needy teams, we should know that the hunger is insatiable. The Atlanta Falcons will move into Mercedes-Benz Stadium this season, just 25 years after they moved into the Georgia Dome. The Redskins have circulated "concepts" for a new stadium to replace FedEx Field, which opened in 1997.
Still, Monday seemed to be the end of an era, a period when the NFL systematically moved its teams into revenue-generating behemoths, prioritizing finance over sentimentality at every turn. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross seems to think so, at least as it relates to public money.
"You've got to look around," Ross said Monday at the owners meetings. "There's very little public money available for teams today. And if you own a team, you should have the deep pockets to deliver. You need some public money for infrastructure and things like that. But with the costs of stadiums today, our country can't afford to put all of the money in those things."
But the league is making more money than ever, and the SportsBusiness Journal projects the NFL's annual revenues at $14 billion annually. If it's going to grow further, it'll have to find a way other than through new stadiums. For the moment, I think. Has to be, right? We shall see.

The Woman with Two Skins – Nigerian Folktale

Eyamba I. of Calabar was a very powerful king. He fought and conquered all the surrounding countries, killing all the old men and women, but the able-bodied men and girls he caught and brought back as slaves, and they worked on the farms until they died.
This king had two hundred wives, but none of them had borne a son to him. His subjects, seeing that he was becoming an old man, begged him to marry one of the spider’s daughters, as they always had plenty of children. But when the king saw the spider’s daughter he did not like her, as she was ugly, and the people said it was because her mother had had so many children at the same time. However, in order to please his people he married the ugly girl, and placed her among his other wives, but they all complained because she was so ugly, and said she could not live with them. The king, therefore, built her a separate house for herself, where she was given food and drink the same as the other wives. Every one jeered at her on account of her ugliness; but she was not really ugly, but beautiful, as she was born with two skins, and at her birth her mother was made to promise that she should never remove the ugly skin until a certain time arrived save only during the night, and that she must put it on again before dawn. Now the king’s head wife knew this, and was very fearful lest the king should find it out and fall in love with the spider’s daughter; so she went to a Ju Ju man and offered him two hundred rods to make a potion that would make the king forget altogether that the spider’s daughter was his wife. This the Ju Ju man finally consented to do, after much haggling over the price, for three hundred and fifty rods; and he made up some “medicine,” which the head wife mixed with the king’s food. For some months this had the effect of making the king forget the spider’s daughter, and he used to pass quite close to her without recognising her in any way. When four months had elapsed and the king had not once sent for Adiaha (for that was the name of the spider’s daughter), she began to get tired, and went back to her parents. Her father, the spider, then took her to another Ju Ju man, who, by making spells and casting lots, very soon discovered that it was the king’s head wife who had made the Ju Ju and had enchanted the king so that he would not look at Adiaha. He therefore told the spider that Adiaha should give the king some medicine which he would prepare, which would make the king remember her. He prepared the medicine, for which the spider had to pay a large sum of money; and that very day Adiaha made a small dish of food, into which she had placed the medicine, and presented it to the king. Directly he had eaten the dish his eyes were opened and he recognised his wife, and told her to come to him that very evening. So in the afternoon, being very joyful, she went down to the river and washed, and when she returned she put on her best cloth and went to the king’s palace.
Directly it was dark and all the lights were out she pulled off her ugly skin, and the king saw how beautiful she was, and was very pleased with her; but when the cock crowed Adiaha pulled on her ugly skin again, and went back to her own house.
This she did for four nights running, always taking the ugly skin off in the dark, and leaving before daylight in the morning. In course of time, to the great surprise of all the people, and particularly of the king’s two hundred wives, she gave birth to a son; but what surprised them most of all was that only one son was born, whereas her mother had always had a great many children at a time, generally about fifty.
The king’s head wife became more jealous than ever when Adiaha had a son; so she went again to the Ju Ju man, and by giving him a large present induced him to give her some medicine which would make the king sick and forget his son. And the medicine would then make the king go to the Ju Ju man, who would tell him that it was his son who had made him sick, as he wanted to reign instead of his father. The Ju Ju man would also tell the king that if he wanted to recover he must throw his son away into the water.
And the king, when he had taken the medicine, went to the Ju Ju man, who told him everything as had been arranged with the head wife. But at first the king did not want to destroy his son. Then his chief subjects begged him to throw his son away, and said that perhaps in a year’s time he might get another son. So the king at last agreed, and threw his son into the river, at which the mother grieved and cried bitterly.
Then the head wife went again to the Ju Ju man and got more medicine, which made the king forget Adiaha for three years, during which time she was in mourning for her son. She then returned to her father, and he got some more medicine from his Ju Ju man, which Adiaha gave to the king. And the king knew her and called her to him again, and she lived with him as before. Now the Ju Ju who had helped Adiaha’s father, the spider, was a Water Ju Ju, and he was ready when the king threw his son into the water, and saved his life and took him home and kept him alive. And the boy grew up very strong.
After a time Adiaha gave birth to a daughter, and her the jealous wife also persuaded the king to throw away. It took a longer time to persuade him, but at last he agreed, and threw his daughter into the water too, and forgot Adiaha again. But the Water Ju Ju was ready again, and when he had saved the little girl, he thought the time had arrived to punish the action of the jealous wife; so he went about amongst the head young men and persuaded them to hold a wrestling match in the market-place every week. This was done, and the Water Ju Ju told the king’s son, who had become very strong, and was very like to his father in appearance, that he should go and wrestle, and that no one would be able to stand up before him. It was then arranged that there should be a grand wrestling match, to which all the strongest men in the country were invited, and the king promised to attend with his head wife.
On the day of the match the Water Ju Ju told the king’s son that he need not be in the least afraid, and that his Ju Ju was so powerful, that even the strongest and best wrestlers in the country would not be able to stand up against him for even a few minutes. All the people of the country came to see the great contest, to the winner of which the king had promised to present prizes of cloth and money, and all the strongest men came. When they saw the king’s son, whom nobody knew, they laughed and said, “Who is this small boy? He can have no chance against us.” But when they came to wrestle, they very soon found that they were no match for him. The boy was very strong indeed, beautifully made and good to look upon, and all the people were surprised to see how like he was to the king.
After wrestling for the greater part of the day the king’s son was declared the winner, having thrown every one who had stood up against him; in fact, some of his opponents had been badly hurt, and had their arms or ribs broken owing to the tremendous strength of the boy. After the match was over the king presented him with cloth and money, and invited him to dine with him in the evening. The boy gladly accepted his father’s invitation; and after he had had a good wash in the river, put on his cloth and went up to the palace, where he found the head chiefs of the country and some of the king’s most favoured wives. They then sat down to their meal, and the king had his own son, whom he did not know, sitting next to him. On the other side of the boy sat the jealous wife, who had been the cause of all the trouble. All through the dinner this woman did her best to make friends with the boy, with whom she had fallen violently in love on account of his beautiful appearance, his strength, and his being the best wrestler in the country. The woman thought to herself, “I will have this boy as my husband, as my husband is now an old man and will surely soon die.” The boy, however, who was as wise as he was strong, was quite aware of everything the jealous woman had done, and although he pretended to be very flattered at the advances of the king’s head wife, he did not respond very readily, and went home as soon as he could.
When he returned to the Water Ju Ju’s house he told him everything that had happened, and the Water Ju Ju said—
“As you are now in high favour with the king, you must go to him to-morrow and beg a favour from him. The favour you will ask is that all the country shall be called together, and that a certain case shall be tried, and that when the case is finished, the man or woman who is found to be in the wrong shall be killed by the Egbos before all the people.”
So the following morning the boy went to the king, who readily granted his request, and at once sent all round the country appointing a day for all the people to come in and hear the case tried. Then the boy went back to the Water Ju Ju, who told him to go to his mother and tell her who he was, and that when the day of the trial arrived, she was to take off her ugly skin and appear in all her beauty, for the time had come when she need no longer wear it. This the son did.
When the day of trial arrived, Adiaha sat in a corner of the square, and nobody recognised the beautiful stranger as the spider’s daughter. Her son then sat down next to her, and brought his sister with him. Immediately his mother saw her she said—
“This must be my daughter, whom I have long mourned as dead,” and embraced her most affectionately.
The king and his head wife then arrived and sat on their stones in the middle of the square, all the people saluting them with the usual greetings. The king then addressed the people, and said that he had called them together to hear a strong palaver at the request of the young man who had been the victor of the wrestling, and who had promised that if the case went against him he would offer up his life to the Egbo. The king also said that if, on the other hand, the case was decided in the boy’s favour, then the other party would be killed, even though it were himself or one of his wives; whoever it was would have to take his or her place on the killing-stone and have their heads cut off by the Egbos. To this all the people agreed, and said they would like to hear what the young man had to say. The young man then walked round the square, and bowed to the king and the people, and asked the question, “Am I not worthy to be the son of any chief in the country?” And all the people answered “Yes!”
The boy then brought his sister out into the middle, leading her by the hand. She was a beautiful girl and well made. When every one had looked at her he said, “Is not my sister worthy to be any chief’s daughter?” And the people replied that she was worthy of being any one’s daughter, even the king’s. Then he called his mother Adiaha, and she came out, looking very beautiful with her best cloth and beads on, and all the people cheered, as they had never seen a finer woman. The boy then asked them, “Is this woman worthy of being the king’s wife?” And a shout went up from every one present that she would be a proper wife for the king, and looked as if she would be the mother of plenty of fine healthy sons.
Then the boy pointed out the jealous woman who was sitting next to the king, and told the people his story, how that his mother, who had two skins, was the spider’s daughter; how she had married the king, and how the head wife was jealous and had made a bad Ju Ju for the king, which made him forget his wife; how she had persuaded the king to throw himself and his sister into the river, which, as they all knew, had been done, but the Water Ju Ju had saved both of them, and had brought them up.
Then the boy said: “I leave the king and all of you people to judge my case. If I have done wrong, let me be killed on the stone by the Egbos; if, on the other hand, the woman has done evil, then let the Egbos deal with her as you may decide.”
When the king knew that the wrestler was his son he was very glad, and told the Egbos to take the jealous woman away, and punish her in accordance with their laws. The Egbos decided that the woman was a witch; so they took her into the forest and tied her up to a stake, and gave her two hundred lashes with a whip made from hippopotamus hide, and then burnt her alive, so that she should not make any more trouble, and her ashes were thrown into the river. The king then embraced his wife and daughter, and told all the people that she, Adiaha, was his proper wife, and would be the queen for the future.
When the palaver was over, Adiaha was dressed in fine clothes and beads, and carried back in state to the palace by the king’s servants.
That night the king gave a big feast to all his subjects, and told them how glad he was to get back his beautiful wife whom he had never known properly before, also his son who was stronger than all men, and his fine daughter. The feast continued for a hundred and sixty-six days; and the king made a law that if any woman was found out getting medicine against her husband, she should be killed at once. Then the king built three new compounds, and placed many slaves in them, both men and women. One compound he gave to his wife, another to his son, and the third he gave to his daughter. They all lived together quite happily for some years until the king died, when his son came to the throne and ruled in his stead.
